Rima2 wins 2008 Gulf Stream Series 2009 US-IRC Gulf Stream Series details Announced
Rima2, the Reichel Pugh 55 sailed by John Brim of New York, NY, won the 2008 US-IRC Gulf Stream Series Trophy. The award was presented at the New York Yacht Club Annual Awards Dinner at the club on Thursday, November 6th. "The Gulf Stream Series is a real marathon," said Brim. "Competing in so many venues made for a fascinating season, and we are proud to have been declared the winner." On the way to winning the 3rd annual Gulf Stream Series, Rima2 competed in the Ft Lauderdale to Key West Race, the Block Island Race, Newport Bermuda, the Ida Lewis Distance Race, the Acura Key West Regatta, the Acura Miami Grand Prix, the American Yacht Club Spring Series and Fall Series, the NYYC Annual Regatta, and the Storm Trysail US-IRC East Coast Championship at Annapolis Yacht Club. Following the awards celebration, details for the 2009 Gulf Stream Series were announced. The 2009 Notice of Series is available now online at www.us-irc.org. Action begins with the 2009 Ft. Lauderdale to Key West and Acura Key West Race Week in January. The series concludes with the Storm Trysail Club's US-IRC East Coast Championship sailed the first weekend of November in Annapolis. The 2009 series will be a streamlined version of the 2008 series with few significant differences: - Yachts will be entered in the series automatically when they compete in their first event. All yachts that qualify by sailing the required number of long distance, medium distance and regatta events will be scored for the series.
- There will be only one Caribbean regatta in the 2009 series.
- The races and regattas are divided into three groups again like in 2007. To qualify for the series a boat must race in one Group 1 Medium Distance event, one Group 2 Long Distance event and three Group 3 Regatta events.
